Images and videos are the primary contributors to heavy page weight. Here are some tips to help reduce the weight of pages that exceed recommended limits.
Optimise Images
Make sure to optimise all images used on your website. Ideally, none should exceed 1MB in size. Blocs will automatically reduce large images when you add them to your project (Embedded Asset Workflow only).
Additionally, there are several third-party tools that can help further reduce image file sizes. We recommend ImageOptim, a free and easy-to-use image optimisation tool for Mac.
We also recommend enabling the Generate WebP option in the export settings. This creates WebP versions of all images on your website, which are often significantly smaller in file size than JPG or PNG formats.
Optimise Videos
Large video files can significantly increase page weight and slow down your website. If you’re hosting your own videos, we recommend using HandBrake to optimise them for the web.
Preloading
For large self-hosted video and audio files, we recommend disabling the preload option on the player Bric. This helps improve page load performance and reduces the perceived page weight.
Lazy Loading
We recommend enabling the Lazy Load export option to help reduce page weight. This feature delays the loading of resources like images, videos, and audio until they appear on screen.
